The project is located in the region of São Cristóvão, near Rio's downtown. Historically, this neighborhood passed through consecutive landfills and ruptures, losing its relation with the landscape around, mostly with the Guanabara Bay, that is right beside it, but is out of reach for the eyes and for the use of locals.
One of the elements near the lot that represent this rupture urban process in the area is the highway viaduct for the Red Line - an express route in Rio linking the city and the international airport - that passes over the Bela Street, that hence exists without daylight or sky view. The search for re-connecting with the landscape guided the project in its accesses, circulation and in the living units.
The entryways near the viaduct refer to that pattern language of Bela Street by using a pilotis-palafita, embracing who arrives from the street - from under the highway - in a common effort between the double ceiling's height of the pilotis-palafita and the curve of the barracão and cenography school of the samba school Paraíso do Tuiuti, a pre-existing occupation in the lot. In the corner of Santos Lima Street and Escobar Street, the lower building compose with the local sobrados (two or three-story houses commonly from XIX and early XX centuries).
The general circulation of the project occurs in passarelas-viaduto, that unveil different angles of portrayed surrounding landscape in all above ground levels.
The apartments itself create an aprecciation of the view with the constant presence of verandas. In Bloco Bela, shared backyards are located in all floors, and at reaching the viaduct's height, a vacant floor slices the building.
The highest point of reconnection with the landscape and the water that there existed is the pool complex at Bloco Galpão top floor, with view to the Bay.
In the ground level, rain gardens and evapotranspiration gardens restablish a relation with the land that was lost to the asfalt.
